69 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet Pro Touring Custom

This trick 1969 Mustang Mach I is one of those cars you just couldn’t duplicate for anywhere near the asking price. The amount of quality work that went into this car is unbelievable, and there’s virtually no piece on the entire car that hasn’t been smoothed, polished, massaged or altered in some way. But it still retains the killer attitude of the timeless Mach I, and brings some serious performance cojones in the form of a giant 428 cubic-inch mill under the hood.

This is a real Mach 1, built on October 2, 1968 in San Jose, California. The Marti Report on the car shows that it was originally Candyapple Red (T5) with a blackout hood and a Black Clarion Knit/Vinyl (3A) interior. It was equipped with a 351 4-barrel engine, an FMX Cruise-O-Matic transmission and a 3.25 Traction-Lok rear axle. The 69 Mach 1 is also equipped with optional power steering, power front disc brakes (now upgraded to vented and cross-drilled rotors with 2-piston Wilwood calipers) and tinted glass, among other things.

The inside of this 1969 Mach 1 is just as well-executed as the exterior. Instead of installing modern seats that just never look right in an older car, the original hi-back buckets were retained and reupholstered in white and silver leatherette that looks like it could have been a factory option. The dash panels have been color-keyed silver to match the exterior for a subtle effect and the carpets are a sophisticated dark gray. New and correct seat belts have been installed. There’s a wooden Shelby-style steering wheel to grab, and the original floor shifter controls the C6 automatic transmission underneath. Air conditioning has been added, as well as an AM/FM/cassette stereo system, both of which nestle into the stock dash without modifications.
