1971 Chevrolet Nova SS

The body on this 1971 Chevy Nova SS is incredibly straight, the floors are flawless and aren’t hiding behind thick undercoating, the interior is 100% General Motors except for the aforementioned Hurst shifter. The trim is straight and shiny, the bumpers line up better than they did in 1971 and the doors close with a solid CHUNK. Underhood, it’s detailed with the correct colors, finishes and decals all around, including the 396/375 HP Turbo-Jet stickers on the chrome air cleaner. The trunk is full of authentic speckle-finish paint with no sign of rust or repairs, topped with an original D70-14 Goodyear Polyglass spare. All this goodness is another sign that this isn’t a real GM product—Chevy never built a car this perfect.

This super-clean, frame up restored ’71 Nova is such a car. Someone wanted a killer street sleeper, and thought that a Nova 2-door would be ideal, so he built one just like he might have wanted in 1971. I’m guessing that by now, you’ve probably noticed the 396 badges on the front fenders and the experts among you are already saying, “Hey! There’s no such thing as a 1971 Nova with a 396!” Well, you’re exactly right. Chevy didn’t build this one.

A closer look at the 1971 Chevy Nova SS will reveal some sensible upgrades, including an MSD 6A ignition system and an Edelbrock intake manifold in place of the original. The show quality undercarriage reveals upgraded sway bars front and back, as well as new shocks and bushings all around. That cowl-induction hood is steel, not fiberglass. You’ll also find a brand new Alpine AM/FM/MP3/CD stereo in the dashboard with upgraded speakers on the rear package shelf. Nevertheless, a factory look is the dominant theme here, right down to the tar paper seal between the hood and the radiator cradle that directs air into the radiator.
